Surrounded by monkeys, hornbills and fireflies, the Firefly Eco Retreat is based on a remote spot at Shimoni’s pristine rainforest. Shimoni is one of the few traditional locations in Kenya which is relatively untouched by modern developments. The FireFly Eco Retreat offers a large variety of facilities. Rent a SUP and paddle through the Wasini Channel, Book Pilli Pipa Dhow experience and start your tour from the base, Visit the Historical slave Caves, three sisters giant caves, Kibuyuni seaweed farming or volunteer as a reef ranger to support and help in the restoration of the Coral reefs

Our Accommodation

We have the following accommodation options lined up for you, all including linen, towel, and a mosquito net. All Tents are equipped with fans.

Bottle Cottage

This unique and beautiful eco-cottage has its own private sea-view balcony and embodies the themes of recycling, ocean conservation and sustainability. Half of your room-rate goes towards supporting Reefolution.

Ocean Front Tents

Ocean Front tents are Specious and have a beautiful sea view and their own deck. Each Tent has a Mini fridge, fan and kettle to make tea or instant coffee. Both tents have a comfortable double bed. It is possible to put in an additional small bed for a child or third person.

Bush Tent

Bush tents are Spacious, can have 2 single beds or 1 Queen bed, It has a mini Fridge, Tea and Kettle for making instant coffee, a fan, Drawer for , a Chair, Coffee table and has an outside seating area with small table and two chairs.

Forest Tents

Small Forest tents can have 1 or 2 single beds or sometimes a double bed. All tents have fans and seats with a small table outside.

We arrived in Shimoni looking for accommodation and after checking out reef resort which we were not too convinced by, as soon as we saw Fire Fly Eco Retreat we knew it was for us. Although it was closed when we arrived, we asked the owner Hiten to let us stay and his team prepared the tent for us at the last minute which we were so grateful for.

Wasini Lookout in only an hour's drive from Diani Beach. We spent the Christmas weekend there with friends and had one of the best times ever. We stayed in one of the two front tents which have been built overlooking the bay in front of Wasini Island. Each front tent has its own deck for beautiful sunrise and sunset viewing, and each also has its own veranda
